Ruben Studdard may have won American Idol 2, but Clay Aiken is likely to have the more promising career as a pop star. Clay has carved out a special niche. In this day and age of gansta rap and sexually-charged music, Clay brings a clean cut, family-friendly style to his music. His legions of fans are a loyal bunch, (often referred to as 'Claymates') and his talent is something special!
If you don't know who Clay Aiken is, he is the runner-up on Fox TV's second 'American Idol: The Search for a Superstar' competition. Vocalist Clay Aiken wowed both television audiences and the judges in 2003 with his rendition of the Simon and Garfunkel classic, "Bridge Over Troubled Water". With his Southern charm, sweet demeanor, and bright, glorious voice, Clay has gathered many fans as he gains recognition throughout America, and even countries all over the world (known as the "Clay Nation"). Shortly after the show, Clay was offered a record deal with RCA.
During the summer of 2003, Clay Aiken appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone Magazine. As a contestant on American Idol, Clay tried not to discuss his personal life. In Rolling Stone, however, he gave an in-depth interview concerning his childhood, life now, and ambitions. In the article, Aiken discussed life at the University of North Carolina in Charlotte, talked about the Bubel-Aiken Foundation. Clay co-founded the Bubel/Aiken Foundation as a means to provide help to individuals with Autism of other physical and mental disabilities.
Clay wowed people when he released his debut single, "This Is The Night". The song was number one on the Billboard Hot 100. It sold over 392,000 copies in the first week alone. In October 2003, Aiken released his debut album entitled "Measure Of A Man". The album, which sold 613,000 copies in the first week, went to number one on the Billboard Chart and is now Triple-Platinum. The album’s first single, "Invisible", has been a top request on both the trendy MTV show, TRL, as well as Much More Music in Canada (where fans are known as "Claynadians").
